picture me {im}perfectly.always late

i think i can do it all.
and i think i can do it all quickly.
hence, i am late.
everywhere.
by like 5 minutes.

for instance, i think that i can
feed,
clean up and
change L
ten minutes before
we need to leave to pick up D from preschool.
when in actuality, it takes a lot longer than that.

actually, it takes me a lot longer to
do everything than i think it will.
and that’s not just because i have three little ones
who love to stop me from accomplishing anything.

do any of you struggle with this?
because you know and i know
that i cannot do it all.
and certainly not quickly.

(and yes, D’s chops will be taken care of this week)

head on over to

i’m tired.
well, i’m not actually tired at all.
i’m completely exhausted.
you know, like when you feel so run-down
that there seems to be a cloud over everything?
yeah, that kind of tired.

right now, i’m just really tired.
tired of keeping it together.
the kids,
the house,
my emotions.
i know that i cannot do this.
not on my own.
but i keep trying.
and i keep failing.

He is before all things,
and in Him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:17

picture me {im}perfectly.messes

is it just me or
does having more than two children rock your world?
it rocks mine.
and not always in the most calming way.

i turn around.
i blink.
i take a deep breath.
i finish a single thought.
and in that short,
(such a short amount of time)
my house is destroyed.

i think that i probably touch more than 400 items a day
and unfortunately, i don’t think that’s an exaggeration.

i think we need to minimize the stuff.
if my children haven’t played with something for more than two minutes,
it needs to go bye bye.
that will surely bless our house.
surely.
less is more.
it is so so so much more.
but i think more importantly,
when i am present
(and i mean really present, people)
the destruction in my house seems to decrease dramatically.

i also think that if i borrowed an extra child for one week
and then gave them back to their parents,
i would think three kids is a breeze.
any takers?

there were so many incredible women who linked up last week!

picture me {im}perfectly.multi-tasking

(now if only my bathroom looked this bright and sparkly up close)

generally, my days are pretty fuzzy.

it’s plain and simple.
i (try to) do
too many things at the same time.

what i convince myself that i’m doing
is getting a lot of things finished at the same time

where in reality
i am just slowing down the process
of completing even one task.

whether it’s
drinking a cup of coffee (more on that later)

or driving

or reading

or thinking
(this could be an endless list).

if my body is not trying to complete another task,
my mind is.

but when i stop and just do one thing at a time,
my day becomes much more clear.

taking pictures doesn’t count as doing
more than one thing at a time, right?
yeah, i didn’t think so.

be sure to stop on by
my sweet friend, Raeanne’s blog.
(isn’t this a cute picture of the two of us?)
the post that she linked up last week really moved my heart.

picture me {im}perfectly.the want

do you ever get sucked into
the mindset that if you just had
this or that
that life would be so much better?

whether it be for L to develop more quickly
or for my life to become more efficient,
i feel like i am always looking for the next thing.
the next system.
the next product.
the next solution.
the next answer.

when all i need to look at is Jesus.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus,
the author and perfecter of our faith,
who for the joy set before him
endured the cross, scorning its shame,
and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2

p.s. you’re right,
these photos had absolutely nothing to do with this post.
they were from a disco party the bigs and i had.

picture me {im}perfectly.the hokey pokey

i have yet another thing to admit.

way too often, i focus on the big things.

i’ve been realizing that life is not about the big things.
the big memories with our kids.
you know,
the birthday parties,
the Christmases,
the Easter celebrations.

no, it’s about all of the little moments in-between
that really are remembered.

all of those little mundane moments
that are squeezed and squished in-between
coming in and leaving the house
and in-between brushing their teeth and
having them use the bathroom and
getting the shoes on and off
and on again and
running here and
running there.

those simple everyday moments.
that’s what it’s all about.
that’s really what it’s all about.
(well, that and the hokey pokey.)

those real memories that frequent your mind
are not from traditions or forced fun or plans.

those good memories are way beyond anything that can be planned.
because let’s be honest here,
you can plan a fabulous party
but you can’t plan a fabulous memory.
those just happen.
out of nowhere.
and they hit you on the side of your head and
jolt you awake.

like a few nights ago,
when i hugged D goodnight
after a particularly exhausting and draining day
where there was not one moment of peace.

and do you know what he said to me?
of course you don’t, that’s why i’m about to tell you.
he said, “mommy hugs are the best.”
i will always remember that.

i am so blessed
and some days,
if i don’t stop,
and i mean really, really stop
in the moments in-between all the other stuff,
i miss life.
it blows right on past me.

so here’s to slowing down.
to actually stopping.
to not focusing on just the really big things
but all those little things in-between.
Mary treasured up all these things
and pondered them in her heart.
Luke 2:19

picture me {im}perfectly.joy

sometimes
(quite often)
i find that my joy is
dependent on how much i accomplish
instead of in the Lord.

and while on some days i do get ahead,
most days i am stuck in neutral
or even worse, reverse.

but, i continually hear God’s whispers
that being neutral
or going in reverse
is absolutely okay.

because life is
much, much more
than getting things done.
because life’s actually not about that at all.

The LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for joy
and I will give thanks to him in song.
Psalm 28:7

picture me {im}perfectly.kicking + screaming

this past weekend, i was one of those parents.
yep, you know the ones.

the one whom everyone is looking at.

the one that is happily walking
as if they don’t have a care in the world.

the one that is pretending as though
they don’t have a certain small person
kicking and screaming
while carrying them away from
whatever it was that they wanted to do.

the kind of person that looks as though
they have somehow been able to ignore
the excessive amount of noise coming from said small person.

now just so you know, i don’t always respond this nonchalantly.
no, quite often i respond similarly to my little people.

and my sixth verse for SSMT is:
And whatever you do,
whether in word or deed,
do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Colossians 3:17
