ten on ten.september

the hubs and i just returned from
a little getaway in the great state of texas.
we went to austin
(my first time)
for a beautiful wedding.
much, much more on all of that soon.

but first, here’s my ten on ten
(a tad late)

1-a very, very early start to the trip
2-airport waiting
3-buckled in
4-glorious
5-the W
6-a quick lunch
7-being pampered
(check out that wall of polish)
8-everywhere you look
you are reminded of
the state that you are in
9-our fabulous view
10-two of me

that day.

do you remember that day at the beach?
well, here are the rest of the photos (finally).

my happy little man.
who is nearly always happy.
except when he’s not.

it was sensational
on that day.

like nothing we’ve ever experienced before.

windbreakers and the ocean?
you bet!

the guys doing manly things.

the girlies.

my girlie.

running.

the sweetest little boy in town
with one of the best aunties.

how incredible is that orange boogie board.
so incredible.

the little athlete of the family.

trudging through some water.

they are always happy to get in the water.
which they never get to do
when i am the only with them at the beach.
we do a lot of looking at the water on those days.

the sun got lower and the day drew darker.

really quiet.

B has been working really hard
on some sweet little gifts for the bigs
(more on that soon).

so as we headed out the door
bright and early yesterday morning,
these little gifts were waiting on the front porch
for D and K.

orange for D
(of course)

and pink for K.
(of course)

my sweet little D started kindy yesterday.

i can’t believe that my first-born is already school-age.

i cried like a big baby after his teacher
took the kids to their classroom.

but i’m okay now.
i think.

it was really, really quiet with
only two kids at home.
really quiet.

and he loved every moment of his day
(of course).

picture me {im}perfectly.what is to come

the stress level has hit a new high around here.
mostly in anticipation of what’s to come.

we are about to embark on a
crazy,
wild
(hopefully) fun and
unchartered journey.

three schools for three kids.
every moment accounted for.

i even just emailed L’s speech therapist

to see if she had any 6:30am
(yes, in the morning)
slots open.
i’m just trying to cram it all in.
all that needs to be done.

i have a constant struggle.
i really don’t want my life to become
scheduling,
rescheduling,
cancelling and
going to therapy with L.
on top of regular,
real life as a wife and momma.

that cannot be my life.
i am always trying to figure out
what the healthy balance is
between giving my family what they need
(without being a robot)
and doing what I love.
i love so many things and
photography is one of those things.
that i love.
so is this blog.

B thinks i will always struggle with doing too much.
and he’s probably right.

the struggle for me is figuring out
what needs to be done and
what i want to do.

the problem is, i love being this person
to every person.
i love to give thoughtful gifts
and plan nice parties and celebrations.
i get a little high out of planning ahead
and it’s starting to take its toll on me.

it’s time for a good old fashion re-prioritizing of life.
isn’t it nice that the fall naturally brings that?
it is nice.

so all this to say,
i will now be updating my blog more like 3-4 times a week,
rather than 5x a week.
i know.
this is major news.
not really,
but there are a few of you
who will worry about me
if i don’t update this little blog every day.
so for those couple of people,
this announcement is for you.

head over to mallory’s blog

and see how her life so relates
to yours and mine.

picture me {im}perfectly
is a weekly project to reveal that we don’t have it all together.

i will post a
picture me {im}perfectly
blog post every wednesday
where you will be able to link up to your blog
revealing that:

you are not picture perfect,
your kids are not picture perfect,
your house is not picture perfect,
your crafts are not always picture perfect,

let’s
encourage,
inspire and
remind
other women
that none of us have it all together.

add my button to your blog post
and link up to your direct posting
and feel encouraged.

farewell.

well, it’s about that time we say
farewell to summer.

(a dog, obviously)

you’ve been good to us.
so very good to us this year.

(i have no idea)

we have enjoyed some lovely sun-filled days
at the beach
and the pool
and you have provided many quiet moments
among a surprisingly rigid and
unrelenting summer schedule.

(again, no idea)

we will always look back at this summer
and think about all of the lovely ways
in which we enjoyed our time with you.
and we will always remember this
as the last summer before D enters kindergarten.
(snakes)

even though i didn’t even get close to
implementing my summer schedule
(a lot of that will hopefully be put into a fall schedule)
we still had an intentional and fulfilling summer.

(a playdough man)

It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth;
you made both summer and winter.

butterflies.

i’m sure you remember my post about

well, this year they had
the most incredible
new exhibit.

it was a butterfly exhibit.

the children were in absolute awe
that they could each catch a little fluttering friend.

and they quickly figured out that
if they were careful enough,
they could place the little butterfly food
on themselves.

and so that is what they did.

did you know it’s always a good idea to close an eye
if you have a butterfly on your head.
it’s typical butterfly protocol.

and there was a worker at the gate
making sure that there
weren’t any butterflies trying to escape.

The good man brings good things
out of the good stored up in his heart,
and the evil man brings evil things
out of the evil stored up in his heart.
For out of the overflow of his heart
his mouth speaks.

the ranch.

thank you to all of you that linked up
for
picture me {im}perfectly yesterday!

now settle in.
because this is going to be a nice, long journey.

some friends we have had for years and years
(since our D and their O were babies)
invited us out to the ranch this past weekend.

we left our house early,
but not that early.
that gorgeous sunrise photo was taken by our very talented friend
(see his watermark)
and you can check out this link
to learn more about the ranch.

it was simply breathtaking.

and this is not a sign we usually see around our parts.

sweet little C.
she was so teensy that i think K thought she was a babydoll.
a talking, nearly walking babydoll.

and sweet old dog, maddie was a love to be around.

we got ready to head down to the beach
and B picked out a surfboard
which was tied to the top of the car.

this was the first ranch gate that he has ever unlocked.
now he’s a pro though.

yes.
that is in fact a photo of us driving on the beach.
i know.
it was incredible.
you can drive on the beaches there
as long as you have a very special pass.

incredible and scary.

especially with those driver helpers.

and this guy was standing on the outside
of the car to get those shots.

apparently, there are no rules at the ranch.

it was

lovely.

simply,

simply lovely.

and so is he.
who doesn’t love some sweet potatoes beachside?
when i think of a great beach snack
i definitely think of sweet potatoes.
don’t you?

heart shaped rocks

and beautiful shells, aplenty.

and you’ve got to wear a cowboy hat on the ranch.
even if you are at the beach.

this little guy, S, didn’t seem to mind
the sand that was all over his face.
i think he was just happy it wasn’t sunscreen.
he’s not a fan of the application of sunscreen.

the waves broke pretty far out
which made for some delightful water play.

my very own marlboro man
with the kids.

apparently the beach was crowded.

i did see about seven other people.
the entire day.

the kids enjoyed the water the entire day.
it was like a dream.
it really was.

my long-time friend, K and i
got to go on a very long walk.
we were gone for over an hour.
and a napping L was on my back.

and little L had a grand time watching all the big kids.

B, K and a sweetly sleeping little C.

the two cowboys and the little lady.

K found a new wrestling partner in S
since D would rather have
nothing to do with that sort of thing.

fun was had until her wrestling partner ran away.

and this is how you juggle a camera with a huge lens and a baby.
just in case you wanted to know.

my cowboy surfer getting ready to head out to the waves.

O and his daddy.

the big boys.
they are only a couple weeks apart.
and they mesh so nicely every time
we get to see this sweet family.
it must have been all of those walks
that we used to take them on as infants.

our little surfer girl.

and a soon-to-be little surfer girl.

and if you look really closely into O’s eye,
you can see a reflection of my little L.

sweet little C checking out the waves.

K and i.
we probably have a bunch of photos
of our bigs when they were L’s size.

sand on the tire.
a rare sight for us.

our last stop on the beach was to this
perfect little spot
to get some family shots.

did i mention how lovely this all was?
because it was.

and this is one of my new favorite shots.
of us.

we soon had to pack up the kids in the car

and say farewell to the ranch.

until we meet again.

And God said,
“Let the water under the sky
be gathered to one place,
and let dry ground appear.”
And it was so.
