i really truly hope that you have a Sally

because life is just better with one.

do you remember how Felicity would snail mail Sally cassette taped voice messages? where she would share
e v e r y t h i n g
that was really and truly going on in her life?

well, i really, truly hope that you have a person like that in your life.

i do.

i have known this most wonderful friend since before i was pregnant with my nearly 20-year-old son. we have lived through each other‘s highs and the deepest of lows. we share everything and talk constantly. she is one of the first people i run to in all circumstances, and for that, i am grateful, so very grateful to our good and precious and wonderful and kind God who blesses us with deep and true friendships.

we go on walks a few times a week and spend lots of time in the car with each other, even though we live in different parts of the country. but that doesn’t stop us one bit. we leave each other messages through our laughter and our tears, and even when we can’t even spit the words out because we are feeling so many things.

we know every last beautiful and ugly and fresh and raw detail of not only what is going on in each other’s lives, but also how the other is feeling and doing and how life is really truly going. like a diary, we tell each other absolutely everything. from our theories as to why our wedding band is too tight (obviously, because of the creatine we are taking), to the most ridiculously hilarious things that have happened. we share what is weighing us down, and together praise God for the unmistakable ways in which we see Him working and moving. we share words from the depths of the darkest places of our hearts, and in doing so, shine light on them and replace the lies with truth.

there is something so tremendous about knowing that there is someone listening to every utterance and every sigh, and who can remind you who you truly are. like Jesus with skin on (as one of the wise women in my life likes to say).

i hope that you have a friend like Sally that you can tell everything to.
