picture me {im}perfectly.late

oh, how good it feels to be back doing this
picture me {im}perfectly thing.

if you have a blog,
please,
please,
please
link up!

i hope
and think
and pray
that this will move hearts
in blogland.

but i need your help.

nearly everywhere i go
(and that is a lot of places
throughout the week)
i am late.

now, my husband and my first born
do not have this problem.
not at all.
actually, most sundays,
the boys are waiting in the car
for the girls to finish getting ready for church.
it’s pathetic.
i’m pathetic.

i just cannot get my act together.
i don’t think it’s that i somehow enjoy
the (painful) rush once i realize that
i am going to be late to get the kids from school
yet again
and that i
really,
really
need to book it
in order to not be embarrassingly late
(note: it’s not the ideal time to get in a quick workout).

what i do know it is is that i’m selfish.
i am so very selfish.
and i
always,
always
think that i can get one more thing done
before heading out the door –
wherever it may be that i am going.

but the
hard and
ugly truth is,
i can’t.
and that i’m not thinking of anyone
besides myself
in those situations.
and what i want to do.
rather than what i need to do.
and what it means to the person on the other end.

so there you have it.
one of a billion illustrations
as to why you should
picture me {im}perfectly.
so please do.
picture me {im}perfectly.

picture me {im}perfectly.letting go

oh this motherhood thing.
i’ve let go of a lot of things.
like, a ton.
how i do things.
what things i do.
when i do things.
it’s all so very different
than before i became a mother.

this book is a must read.
it’s been on my bookshelf for years
and i only just now opened it up.
and i’m almost done with it.
now, that doesn’t typically happen
as a mother.

in fact, i have way too many books on my
“i want to read this” list.
but this book is so good.
it is so different.
it’s relatable.
and encouraging.
i really, really, really
think you should read it.
in fact, if you click here,
you can read the first chapter
and see what i’m talking about.

picture me {im}perfectly.tuned in

sometimes.
oh, sometimes i feel antsy.
and need to stop what i’m doing.
and just go out and take photos.

to see the world through the eye of my lens
and not with my real eyes.
because so often, my real eyes lie to me.

sometimes my lens is the only thing that can
see what this life is all about.
it sees what my eyes can’t see.

doing this
gives me a smaller focus.
i’m more tuned in.
and i am here.
in the right now.
even if for that brief moment
as the shutter in my camera snaps.

(and can you believe all of this? i can’t!)
so, most of you know that

well, today, he wrote this article

picture me {im}perfectly.i forgot

so last week,
i texted a neighbor
to see if she could pick up
the bigs from school for me the next day.
i also offered pick up her son
from school that day.

perfect.

except for the fact that i
picked up my bigs
and made it all the way
to our friends’ street
before realizing that i had
forgotten
to pick her son up from school.
i had completely
forgotten.

so the bigs and i ran back to school
as fast as we could
and met the sweet boy
who was waiting in the office.
for someone,
anyone to pick him up.
aren’t i such a nice friend?
huge fail.

picture me {im}perfectly.all wrong

i’ve got it all wrong.
i have thought that a successful day happened
was when lunches were made,
the house was cleaned (up)
and everything was in its proper place.

but you know what?
the
exact
opposite
is true.
a successful day
is when you have
puzzles covering the floor.
the entire floor.

picture me {im}perfectly.not myself

i’m so so sorry
for the lack of posts
the last few weeks.

i wasn’t feeling myself.
i wasn’t feeling good
or even just okay.
i felt just awful.

my heart goes out to all of you
who deal with chronic illnesses
where you just don’t feel well enough
to do anything
other than just be
and even then,
when it’s hard to just be.

but now i am back.
back to myself.
back to everything that was.
and it feels really good.
really, really good to just be.
you forget on a daily basis how wonderful
it is just to feel you in your own skin.
but then when you get back to that place,
it’s even better than you remember it being.

so for this week’s
picture me {im}perfectly post,
please accept my lack of recent posts
as the perfect opportunity to
picture me {im}perfectly.
because i am.
{im}perfect.

picture me {im}perfectly.things in this life

sometimes things in my life
seem so big
and so uncontrollable
that i have no choice
whatsoever
but to look to God
to lead me
and guide me
and give me His strength
and His wisdom
and His perfect peace
to get through it.

and i know that he does that on purpose.
because i am either going to be crushed
or i will cling to Him.
it’s up to me.

but God is so good.
even in those really tough times.
He’s moving.
in my life right this second.
this second.
and this one, too.

He’s using people around me
to let me know that He is here.
that He knows.
because He does.
and He sees.
and how He loves me
(how He loves us all).
He wants me to turn toward Him.
Him.
and nothing else.

ask Him to show you His love.
and He will
show you
every time.
in ways never expected.

but it’s beautiful.
and life changing.
and I can’t imagine
going through this life,
this sometimes tough, relentless life
without Him by my side.
and neither should you.

picture me {im}perfectly.these times

i challenge you to
picture yourself {im}perfectly
this week and link up your blog post.

show others that it’s not all about
always showing ourselves in the best light.
but it’s more important to reveal truth in our lives.

sometimes i forget
that the ultimate goal for this life
isn’t about comfort.
sometimes i find myself longing for
quieter, more peaceful times
(that don’t exist
anywhere near my life right now).
times where i can
leisurely go and get a cup of coffee.
or read a book that isn’t about parenting or IEPs.
or sit for a moment to collect my thoughts.
or times when i won’t be so utterly and completely
dependent on God
in every single aspect of my life.
all the time.

often,
too,
too often,
my focus flows into
getting through this time
or that time
rather than just being in those times.
fully in those times.
seeking Him
and His purpose
for my life.
focusing my eyes on Him
who gives me strength.

and all the while being grateful
that i am going through
this or that
because it is solely through those times
that my relationship with Him
grows stronger.
and sometimes i forget that the ultimate goal in life
is
to be fully
and utterly
and so very completely
dependent on Him.
